The Prazdnik Severa (Festival of the North)
Ski Marathon Murmansk started its history in 1973. It is one of the main sports events in the Murmansk region. Murmansk is the largest port city above the Polar Circle on halfway from Moscow to the North Pole. It is the most visited northern city in Russia, perfect for arctic tourism. Guests of the region enjoy nature parks, Murmansk Museums, sights and Sami culture trips. Watching midnight sun in summer and polar nights with Aurora Borealis in winter attracts tourists from all over the world. Visitors get to Murmansk by plane via St. Petersburg, Moscow, Helsinki, Ivalo (FIN) or Kirkenes (NOR).
The race is well organized, challenging and boasts great atmosphere. Traditionally both cross-country skiing professionals seeking the marathon medals and amateurs of all ages take part. The track goes through numerous lakes and charming fells. There are skating races for 25km, 50km and Baby marathon in the program on the 31 March, 2018. The 1 April, 2018 program includes classic races for 25 and 50km. Russialoppet invites all athletes to visit Murmansk. Euroloppet Travel will organize a journey.
